Claire is a supportive staff researcher who has prioritized work-life balance. Claire started teaching about infectious diseases in high school as a Peer Health Educator. After studying Marine Biology and discovering, a) entry level positions were unpaid, and b) she gets seasick, she applied for a Masters in Infectious Disease in order to gain work experience and live abroad again. One year away turned into five when she accidentally applied for a Ph.D. program. After a two-year postdoc at The Scripps Research Institute and a break from academia in the start-up arena, Claire got back to the bench in the role of supporting a newly established Infectious Disease Lab at UCSF, in October 2016. In 2018, the PI's move to industry dissolved the lab and Claire joined the Nijagal Lab, enthusiastic to join another group that makes an effort to foster a positive work environment.
