Dr. Nijagal, an active pediatric surgeon, and his colleagues treat several complex congenital diseases. The etiology of several of these conditions, however, remains unknown. Furthermore, the surgical “fix” doesn’t always address the pathophysiological sequelae of the congenital disorder. For these reasons, the Nijagal Lab seeks to understand tissue and organ development from a different lens: how the immune system influences fetal development and repair.
